Aren't the colours in Autumn amazing?
I went for a walk on Wednesday, it did have a practical purpose, I had an appointment about forty minutes walk away and I decided I'd like to take the time to use my feet rather than the car. This meant that I didn't have to file all the bits of paper I have in a bag in the bedroom (I will do it eventually, but I HATE filing) and I'd have some time to listen to some music as well as getting some exercise.

So I set off, prepared with water, iPod, book and my new favourite piece of clothing, a black velvet Victorian style jacket from Monsoon (charity shop, I haven't won the lottery yet!). It didn't rain and I was almost mesmerised by the vibrant red of the berries and rosehips, breathed in the bitter fragrance of fallen leaves, felt the touch of strong wind on my cheeks and enjoyed the rhythm of walking at my own pace, in my own time, mostly accompanied by the music of the Fields of the Nephilim. Always good travelling music for me, especially the Nephilim album.

The whole experience was a pleasure. On the way back I deliberately left the quickest route and passed through woodland, over rough paths where no one had picked the blackberries (I did) and saw no one except birds, a squirrel, the evidence of rabbits and one dog walker, with dog.

It reminded me that the quickest method of transport isn't always the best and that I should appreciate my journeys more, rather than being focused on the destination. Life is made wondrous by these little things.

Other things that have made my week include my husband, my new velvet leggings from http://www.moonmaiden-gothic-clothing.co.uk/moonmaiden-index/main_index07.htm, a Rubicon album (anyone else think the singer sounds like a cross between Danzig and Gillan or is that just me?), H P Lovecraft, Co operative individual strawberry trifles (vegetarian jelly, yay!) and the sparkly antidote to dark evenings 'Strictly Come Dancing'. There is something so appealing about John Sargeant I actually voted for him tonight and I might just download a version of 'Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets' from iTunes.
