On Friday night I smelt the evening air and remembered. I was waiting to cross the road in Bishopston, a studenty, pubby kind of area of Bristol to go to a leaving do and a waft of that especially autumnal night out smell that combines smoke, dust, beer fumes and some indefinable scent of excitement and youth brushed me. I closed my eyes and recalled being a fresher, the potential, the uncertainty of what the night would hold, the new of it all. It was rather buoying.

The meal was good. I caught up with lots of previous colleagues, ate a tasty dessert and on the way home I saw a falling star, or bit of space junk, it was pretty, green and moving purposefully across the sky. Seemed kind of magical. Maybe it was the darkness and the aloneness, I don't get enough of these things.

Today was cold, it means that Hallowe'en won't be long. I shall be changing my folky, summery wardrobe of music for something of a darker persuasion. I have begun with Tides an ep by Opened Paradise from Greece. I had actually heard 2 of the tracks on it already, but the studio versions are superior to the youtube live ones. It doesn't for me have quite the same immediate "I love you" quality as their debut album, but there is a bit in Blue Lights where I feel like I'm falling.

Also finally bought Mark Lanegan Band's Funeral Blues my, when it's good it's so delicious I want to gorge myself on it, not all of it is that amazing, but really it excites my musical taste buds.

Finished my two vampire books. Yawn. Remind me not to fall for the "I enjoyed this series 6 books ago so why not read another one?" thing. Both Charlaine Harris and Laurell K Hamilton seem to have left their best work behind them. Going to read Perfume next.

Hope you all have a good week. Night night.
