I admit that before last weekend, I couldn't even spell ukulele, but have, due to number one son's homework project, been quite immersed in the subject over the last few days.

There was a rather disastrous attempt to tune the uke we're borrowing from my brother (I knew the string wasn't going to be able to go that high, but persisted in tightening it anyway), but apart from that it's been all fun and games. Really, can anyone listen to Tiny Tim's Livin' in the Sunlight and not smile? I can't.

Then there is Amanda Palmer's fabulous Ukulele Anthem suggesting that if Sid Vicious had had a ukulele instead of a bass guitar his life might have been very different, Jake Shimabukuro's cover of While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's Somewhere Over the Rainbow and oh just everything!

Here's a Spotify playlist for anyone in need of a little whimsy.

It has distracted me from the absence of small son and hubby (one at camp one at rugby) and the fact that I've felt a bit sick for most of the day.

I have read Robin Hobb's The Inheritance which was a bit grim, but good and enjoyed the new episodes of Penguins of Madagascar more than an adult probably should. Feel like I need a holiday, but at least buds are opening and the sun came out. Got very bored of fog at the beginning of the week.

Happy St Patrick's day to any that celebrate it. I put on a crocheted shawl that belonged to my grandmother and realised that it still smelled of her perfume, she's still here, in so many ways. Have a good what's left of the weekend, my friends.

I'm actually a bit obsessed with Tiny Tim - my family used to tease me about him, when I was little - I was quite smitten!

Herbert, as I like to think of him, was certainly a one off, wasn't he? I think he is delightful and it took 2 hours of listening to other things to get "Livin' in the Sunlight" out of my head! Such a marvellous performer, bringing an innocent kind of happiness with his art.

My mum just told me she'd never heard of him, which is strange. I was rather alarmed to see a photo of him in his coffin with the ukulele whilst we looked for a photo from the internet, he could have been sleeping though.

Are there any other highlights from him I should seek out? I heard his interpretation of 'People Are Strange', but that seemed rather sad, somehow.

Two of my lj friends have one. :o)

My dad was on an airplane with Tiny Tim (not next to him, but on the same flight). I think in the late 60s.

cool, was your Dad a fan of his at the time? I only see boring politicians when I go on planes.

Maybe I'm strange, but I can't help but think that picture looks like Steve Coogan in disguise! Maybe a new character? Ahem.

Well, anyways, I am glad to hear you be enjoying your strumming, or is it more plucking on a ukelele? Either ways, hopes all is well.

My world remains somewhat confused and just a little empty but is yet seeking to put thoughts together and hopefully with tomorrow's trip to Scaryborough out the way I shall have a bit more space in my head to put things into better order. The world hasn't been to helpful in providing that space lately but hopefully I can get things back in order. I will see about posting some journally thoughts myself as soon as I can assemble them in suitable order. Hopes you remain well in the meanwhiles. *hugs*

well, number one son is the one who knows chords at this moment, but I might learn some, it seems quite within my capabilities to make a reasonable noise on it.

Glad to see you managed an entry, hope you're okay too.

Well, I wish you best of luck in any musical experimentations you try. I think big brother rather made off with all the musical genes in my family, wolf paws do make strings a difficult proposition though of course.

As yet, I fear I'm not sure if I could reach as far as ok yet, but I shall let you know in more details as soon as I may be able.

Hopes your world is being kindly.
