Well, I haven't seen it, so I can't tell you why you might be wrong, though based on your critique I could perhaps make an entirely uninformed suggestion on why at least one of the points you make could be wrong. You suggest that the possible moral message (though I have seen interviews with the writer where he says moralising wasn't in his mind and he was just out to write a story which is rather strong evidence against my point but I will persevere!) on consumerism and over-consumption could be that it was showing exactly that just leaving the planet behind and going back later when everything had grown back was exactly what hadn't worked and thus we now would have to therefore do something else. Not offering a specific solution as such but pointing out this course is not the right one and implicitly suggesting that we need to start doing something direct and constructive about this rather than just leaving and running away.
