bethnoir: (Barry Island)
It's Nick Cave's birthday tomorrow. I wonder if he's hard to buy for? Does his wife, in desperation get him another Bible or pair of socks with his name on them? I once nearly bought some Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds socks, just because it seemed such an absurd promotional item. Listening to the Birthday Party I been reminded how unlikely it seemed then that he'd reach 51.
Happy birthday to him anyway.

Closer to home, we didn't get to Wales due to various factors which means that I have a bouquet of flowers I wasn't expecting and that I got a lot more washing, garden tidying and housework done than anticipated. I also had a chance to do a bit of writing inspired by Leonard Cohen's work and the' How to Write Poetry' booklet given away with the Observer today. It's not saying anything new, but it's blessedly short and to the point. Did anyone get the writing fiction one on Saturday?

Slightly surprised to see poor wide jawed Tess get raped on TV at 6.15 on a Sunday night, bit underwhelmed by the adaptation, but I find it a difficult book anyway. Anyone else watch it?

More shiny and glittery and fun was the return of Strictly Come Dancing. I can't quite describe the appeal, but I love it, although the Sunday show felt very long tonight and I wanted Gary Rhodes to go.
