Visiting the imaginarium on a bicycle

So, the election results were rather disappointing. I am represented by a Conservative MP, which was not my choice and slightly over a thousand people in my area voted for the BNP. That is disturbing. Leaving that aside though, the week has been quite positive.

On Wednesday I watched 'The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus' which is by Terry Gilliam and starred Heath Ledger amongst others. I wasn't immediately impressed, but it picked up once the Heath's character was introduced. The film required considerable suspension of disbelief, but it was involving, sexy, scary and funny as well as being strange. My favourite part was seeing Johnny Depp acting as Heath Ledger, he managed to make his face move like him which was quite a feat. Well worth a look, I think that the critics were overly unkind.

Oh, and if I went through the mirror Devendra Banhart would be involved, I've had some excellent fun in dreams with him lately.

I visited a second hand shop in Westerleigh (about five miles away) which was filled with strange and wonderful things like fish tanks, chaise longues, gates and bicycles. I bought two bikes, one for me, one for number one son, for the princely sum of £56.10. The ten pence was because the elderly lady on the till didn't realise that she owed me some change and it seemed rude to insist. Whilst there I visited the graveyard

I've just finished reading Richard Herring's book How not to grow up which was interesting and revealing (too much at times), I'm not sure that I like him, but, like his blog , I enjoy reading his thoughts.

Inspired partly by Rich's description of the Roman remains in Sicily which I've also visited, we went to Kings Weston Roman Villa on the other side of Bristol. My word, what a spectacularly underwhelming place. I really wouldn't bother, but will have to seek out an impressive ruin to visit with the children or they'll think the Romans were terribly dull.

I want some new music, but I don't know what, what are you all listening to?
